This is Mrs. Mayo's nineteenth year happily teaching third grade at Pagosa Elementary School. She herself is a product of Archuleta School District schools and has lived in Pagosa Springs most of her life.
Mrs. Mayo took a circuitous route to Pagosa Elementary. She worked in a variety of positions including preschool director, adult educator, job coach, and special education teacher in New Mexico.
Mrs. Mayo has a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education with minors in reading and Spanish. She completed all the Masters level coursework and comprehensive exams in special education, but didn't get to the internship required to complete the program. Because she is a proponent of lifelong learning, she takes online courses or attends training workshops whenever possible. Currently, she is part of a Right 4 Rural grant project that seeks to increase the identification of gifted students from underrepresented populations.
Mrs. Mayo believes that all children should have the basic right to be educated in a safe and equitable environment. She strives to provide a classroom that is inviting and respectful of each student who enters.
