Tessie Garcia was born and raised in Pagosa Springs. She is one of 8 siblings. It was in third grade that she knew she wanted to be an art teacher. It was because of her art teacher, Miss Nash.
By high school, Ms. Tessie's art teachers, Charla Ellis and Paul Henry, were the greatest influence as to the direction that her life would take. By then she had no doubt that she was going to be an art teacher and went to Adams State College in Alamosa to receive her B.A. in Art.
In 1993, Ms. Tessie introduced Art to the Pagosa Springs Elementary School. Jennifer Alley wrote a grant and Ms. Tessie began the art program and it has been a vital part of the education program for the school ever since.
As An Artist, She enjoys throwing on the Potter's Wheel. She loves anything involving clay. Speaking of clay, she oversees the Empty Bowl Program for the elementary school.
