Dear Parents and Students,
You should have received communication from the district this morning regarding our reopening plan. I am reaching out to you today to send the following information for the elementary school.
Pagosa Springs Elementary School (PSES) will operate by this plan developed from guidance by the Governor’s office. Student attendance is guided by the three categories (1) Safe at Home, (2) Safer at Home, (3) Protect Our Neighbors. This plan is built upon the criteria of Safer at Home guidance and may be adjusted as needed.
Given the guidance, the PSES Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and PSES Administration have adopted the following HYBRID Model. This model will last a minimum of the first four weeks of school whereupon the administration hopes to move to a 4-Day Face-to-face, 1 Day Remote Model (Mon-Thursday/Friday). The plan allows for training all staff, students, and parents in the Learning Management System (LMS), practice cohorting with half the students at a time, and train all students in necessary safety and health guidelines (classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, playground, etc.):
Students will return to school for regular academic programming in the ASD Blended/Hybrid Learning Model and work toward the ASD Primarily In-Person Model over a period of four weeks.
Group “A” (Last names A-L) will attend In-Person Monday-Tuesday and complete In-home Remote Learning Wednesday-Friday.
Group “B” (Last names M-Z) will attend In-Person Wednesday-Thursday and complete In-home Remote Learning Friday, Monday & Tuesday.
Some class lists may be adjusted to re-balance class sizes because of cohorting by last name and students attending online schooling. You will be notified if this is the case for your child.
This model will be followed the first 4 weeks of the school year (SEP 8th-OCT 2nd).
Deep cleaning and disinfecting will be completed each Friday in the absence of students while staff will complete Professional Development (PD) in grade level Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
It is the desire of the ES Administration and staff to move to the In-Person Model beginning the 5th week of school. To that end, we will monitor guidance from the ASD Superintendent, the Governor's Office, San Juan Basin Health and CDE for any changes through this time period.
This plan is developed with the overarching guideline of no more than 25 persons in a group, socially-distancing, mask-wearing for persons older than 10 years of age, and frequent hand washing for all stakeholder’s safety. PSES staff encourages students to wear masks. We look forward to a great school year and hope this passes sooner rather than later.
