Destination Imagination (DI) is a free program to students grades kindergarten through high school. Teams of 2 - 7 students gather regularly to imagine and innovate. Together teammates accept a challenge and work together on a presentation.
The DI season begins in August every year and regional competition is held in Durango every March.
DI uses STEAM focused challenges to inspire skill development such as innovation, time management, problem solving and critical thinking. Every August DI publishes challenges for the season. Challenges are designed to ignite the creative process within students and encourage teams to take ownership of their solutions.
Teams gather regularly to collaborate on solutions to their chosen challenge. Team managers facilitate safe environments for students to creatively explore solutions to their chosen challenge. Managers also provide fun games and daily challenges for teams. Students begin with their imaginations and through the creative process experience skills to become innovators of tomorrow.
Regional competitions give teams guidelines for challenge solutions. The challenges are open-ended and designed to encourage self-expression and team ownership. Students are given an opportunity to reflect on their results and encouraged to celebrate their accomplishments.
