Born in Winter Park, Florida, Julie lived in southern states (FL, SC, NC, MD) until she was 33 years old. She worked as a social worker, as a nanny, various restaurants positions, and even on a private yacht! She moved to Pagosa Springs in 2004 and worked as a substitute teacher in the Archuleta School District for 3 years. Realizing the need for quality, dedicated teachers in our community, Julie decided to follow in the footsteps of her mother (and several family members) to become an educator. She joined Pagosa Springs Elementary School as a full-time teacher in 2017, while obtaining her teaching certification through the Boettcher Teacher Residency program. She is thrilled to be working with the budding minds of fourth grade students, encouraging them to have a Growth Mindset while learning from their mistakes. In August of 2022, Julie completed her CLD Master's degree through UNC Greeley. She is thankful to contribute to the well-being of her students and to her community as an educator.
Julie enjoys hiking, disc golf, cooking, camping, music, photography and skiing powder. She also loves traveling to new places, near and far, with her husband Matt. They have a dog named Pancho and a cat named Lena.
